THE NAMED ENDOWMENT PROGRAM
The SVCC Alumni Association, in conjunction with the SVCC Educational Foundation,
presents an opportunity to honor or remember a friend, a relative, a family or to show
your own interest in Southwest Virginia Community College. The Named Endowment Program
allows you to establish a permanent scholarship fund, in a name chosen by you, to aid
deserving students with tuition expenses.
This perpetual scholarship requires initial capitalization of $30,000, which can be
accumulated over three years. This fund can be added to by anybody at any time, and the
contributions are tax deductible under IRS guidelines. The minimum award in the Named
Endowment Program is $1000. Therefore, it requires a principal balance of $30,000
to generate enough interest to make an annual award.
When sufficient interest has accumulated for an award to be made, you, as the donor, are
invited to attend the annual Donor/Recipient Scholarship Banquet held in April, offering
an opportunity for you to personally meet the student benefiting from your scholarship.
Donors are encouraged to explore the advantages of setting up life insurance policies or
trust accounts for the purpose of funding this type of scholarship. Representatives from
both the SVCC Educational Foundation Office and Alumni Office will be happy to meet with
you and explain the tax advantages these options offer to prospective donors.
