
Southwest Virginia Community College and the National Science Foundation are pleased to announce a scholarship program that will provide up to $7,825 in scholarship assistance over two years for 26 undergraduates in one of the following majors: Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Computer Electronics Technology, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Engineering, Environmental, or Science. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, and supplies. Twenty-six scholarships will be awarded for four consecutive years beginning in the fall of 2008.
The primary goal of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (S-STEM) Program is to increase the number of talented, but financially disadvantaged undergraduates who achieve associate degrees in the programs listed above. The project will focus on recruitment and retention of S-STEM students to degree achievement.
All applicants must meet the the following standard criteria:
1. U.S. Citizen, national or alien admitted as a refugee at time of application.Once selected, a student will be required to maintain full-time status, make progress toward completion of one of the programs listed above and participate in related program support activities such as "S-STEM" Club, Big Brother/Big Sister initiatives and special activities.
