Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Earl E. and Dorothy J. Dellinger Learning Resources Center is now under construction on the campus of SwVCC. The groundbreaking ceremony for the building took place in October with remarks made by several, including the Chairs of the SwVCC Local College Board and the State Board for Community Colleges, as well as members of the legislature and others. A statewide funding initiative, approved by the voters of Virginia in 2002, paved the way for construction of SwVCC's new Learning Resources Center, depicted below. Beginning August 13, 2007 and continuing for approximately 18 to 24 months, the construction process will change much of the landscape and areas at the center of our campus. If you have ever been through a remodeling process, you know it can be a bit messy. So please bear with us and direct any questions or concerns to:

The new Learning Resources Center building will include a comprehensive and state-of-the-art Library which will approximately double the size of the existing facility.

The new Library facility will include

• a computer lab for instruction and information access

• a children’s collection room

• a faculty research room

• four quiet study rooms.

The Library will be a wireless environment with computers available for public access and student and faculty use.

Distance & Distributed Learning

The expansion in the Distance & Distributed Learning division will include:

• four electronic classrooms

• a television studio and production facility

• radio broadcasting area

• duplication and graphics design area

• testing centers

• conference rooms

• general classroom space.

Learning Assistance Center

The Learning Resources Center building will also house a greatly expanded Learning Assistance Center which will include:

• tutoring services

• instructional placement and occupational placement services

• computer software programs for students with visual and hearing disabilities

• computer software programs for allied health and other instructional programs.

Old Dominion University’s distance learning program will be located in the new LRC Building, which will enable students to pursue college degrees from the bachelor’s degree level through advanced graduate studies without leaving the SwVCC campus.
