SwVCC and Lindsey Wilson College Sign Memorandum of Agreement

Southwest Virginia Community College and Lindsey Wilson College (LWC) officially entered a partnership this morning.
The presidents of the two colleges signed a memorandum of agreement that allows SwVCC students to continue their education at Lindsey Wilson without leaving the SwVCC campus in Richlands.

The agreement allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in human services from Lindsey Wilson by attending classes at SwVCC.
“I hear outstanding things about the program that you are bringing to us, and we are excited to have it on our campus,” said SwVCC President J. Mark Estepp.
SwVCC Vice President of Instruction Robert Tomlinson added: “We see this as a great chance to provide more opportunities for our students.”

Lindsey Wilson classes are offered on Friday and Saturday at SwVCC. Students are enrolled in two Lindsey Wilson classes at a time, which meet for three weekends. The classes are taught by Lindsey Wilson’s full-time faculty, who travel to Richlands each week. Students enrolled in the program full-time should be able to earn a bachelor’s degree in a little more than a year.

“We are so impressed with your campus – it is stunning,” said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. “We are excited about the opportunity to come to this campus and work with your graduates and make a difference. We think it will be a great partnership between our two colleges.”

Lindsey Wilson’s human services and counseling program is part of the college’s School of Professional Counseling. In addition to a bachelor’s program, Lindsey Wilson’s SPC also offers a master of education degree in counseling and human development, which is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, the accreditation arm of the American Counseling Association.

Lindsey Wilson classes began at SwVCC at the start of this semester. And according to Lindsey Wilson SPC Dean John Rigney, the program is off to a great start.

“It has been a real pleasure to work with this campus,” Rigney said. “We have received a very warm welcome from everyone at Southwest Virginia.”
