Southwest Virginia Community College is hosting its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day luncheon and ceremony on Monday, January 15, in the College’s King Community Center at 11:30 AM. The public is invited to take part in this joyous celebration of the great civil rights leader’s life and accomplishments.
This year’s speaker is Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, president of Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina. Griffin previously served as president and Chief Executive Officer, West Virginia State Community and Technical College. He was also a counselor and former Director of Student Financial Assistance and Student Activities at SwVCC. He is involved with many professional and civic organization including the Commission on Communications and Marketing – American Association of Community Colleges, Halifax Horizons, and Halifax – Warren Smart Start Partnership for Children.
Griffin received a Doctorate of Education in Community College Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Sciences Degree from Western Illinois University and a Bachelor of Sciences Degree from Bluefield State College.
