SwVCC OTA Program Graduates 10th Class

The 10th Annual Pinning and Awards Ceremony for the Occupational Therapy Assistant graduates was recently held at the Southwest Virginia Community College Community Center auditorium to recognize the students for their dedication and hard work during the program. Annette Looney, the program director presided over the ceremony; John Hartlen, fieldwork coordinator, presented the candidates for pinning; Mary Rose Kelty, an occupational therapist in southwest Virginia, gave the address to the candidates; Emily Manier, a 2007 candidate for graduation, gave the student address; and Bill Fiess, was the pianist for the ceremony.

Program graduates are now eligible to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Examination and work under the supervision of occupational therapists in a variety of treatment settings to provide treatment that is designed to help individuals achieve independence in activities of daily living, work and productive skills, and play/leisure skills.
