Hal Brainerd's exhibit "Digital Photography's Broad Spectrum" will be on display from October 19 through December 2 at the Booth Center Gallery in Grundy, Virginia, a part of Southwest Virginia Community College. The exhibit will be a journey through the new world of digital photography, including painted portraits, high dynamic resolution imaging, panoramas, and landscapes.

Hal Brainerd became supervisor of the U.S. Army Color Photographic Lab in Washington, D.C. in 1970. His staff provided photography for the White House and the Military District of Washington. Hal's photography has been exhibited in numerous museums, including the Gilcrease Institute of American History and Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon, and the Roanoke Fine Arts Center in Roanoke, Virginia. In 1993 Hal was recognized by the First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, as one of our Nation’s outstanding craftsmen and artists. In 2008 Hal was nominated for the Virginia Governor's Awards for the Arts.
Hal and his wife Betty have operated the Brainerd Gallery in Bluefield, WV for over 23 years.
