SWCC & CART Host Mask Exhibition

From November 6 through December 11, Southwest Virginia Community College will present a special exhibition in Buchanan Hall Gallery (B130).  This exhibition will showcase masks made by SWCC students and Kim Jackson’s Art I and II classes at Richlands High School.  CART will be hosting a free public reception on Wednesday, November 18 from 12:00-1:00 pm and 5:00-7:00 pm in the gallery.

Larry Hunt, master mask maker, performance artist, director, and educator presented workshops during the week of September 8, 2009.  These workshops were held at SWCC and sponsored by CART. Participating SWCC students and Richlands High School students created masks of their own.

Hunt has produced and performed original theater works since he founded the MASQUE Theater Company in 1980.  This international touring company has performed on four continents for over a million people including the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Australia, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Israel, Bulgaria, Serbia, and England.  Larry continues traveling across the United States teaching and directing performances in schools, festivals, and theatres.  He creates his own masks, characters, and situations.  Mr. Hunt is a self-taught sculptor and has been working with masks since 1977.
