Southwest  Professor Dr. John Brenner is organizing a Spring Break 2010 trip that will last from March 5 through 13 to Recife, Brazil.  Participants will enjoy the cultural experience of staying with host Brazilian families for the majority of their trip, numerous activities, and a one night stay in a tourist hotel to take advantage of Recife’s stunning beaches.  The total cost for the trip is $1,500 and everyone is invited to take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The trip will include air transportation, a visa to Brazil, bus transportation while in Recife, and a one night stay in a hotel at Porto de Galinhas.  Participants will be responsible for meals while in Brazil as well as registering for the Humanities 195-02 class at SWCC.  This class can be applied as one Humanities credit towards a degree program.    The majority of the trip will be spent with English speaking students and associates of the ABA School in Recife, an English language school.  Staying with a host family facilitates the understanding of the culture of Brazil.

Brenner organizes several Brazilian Connections a year and during these video conferences, participants will be able to meet and interact with the same students and families which they will be staying with in Brazil.  The next tentatively scheduled date for a video conference is October 26 at 7:00 p.m. on the SWCC campus.  For exact dates, times, and locations contact John Brenner at the information provided below.  Activities during the trip include meeting the host families, touring the ancient areas of Recife, visiting art sites, open air markets, breathtaking beaches, and much more.

A $1,000 deposit will be due by the first of December and all participants will need a valid passport before airline tickets can be purchased, ticket prices may vary.  Once tickets have been purchased, deposits cannot be refunded.   Participants will be informed of the final amount for the trip after tickets are purchased and the remaining amount will need to be submitted by February 8, 2010.  For more information, please contact John Brenner at 276.964.7226 or john.brenner@sw.edu.
