Requirements for application for Foundation and Institutional Scholarships at Southwest Virginia Community College:

All students with a 3.0 (B) GPA or greater are encouraged to apply. However, some scholarships do accept lower GPAs. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

1) Complete all SVCC admission requirements.

2) Completely fill out the SVCC Scholarship Application:
-make sure to select only the scholarships for which you qualify - do not select ALL
-include the information form with all appropriate names and signatures when needed
-Write and submit via email the student scholarship essay.

3) If you are applying for scholarships requiring special information and a signature, download and print the separate application (Acrobat PDF format or Word Rich Text Format - RTF) and indicate each scholarship for which you wish to be considered by checking the appropriate boxes and providing any required names and/or signatures.

4) Submit online, mail or deliver all requested documents to Dr. Natalie Chambers-Ramsey (ex: high school/college transcripts, GED & any other test scores) even if previously submitted to SVCC for another purpose.

5) Be sure to place your name on the top of each page of your documentation.

6) Have your counselor sign the Southwest Scholarship Item Verification form in either Acrobat PDF or Rich Text Format (RTF). REQUIRED for verification of GPA and Class Rank.

7) Mail all information together in one packet. Do not deliver pieces of your application separately.

Application deadline is past for 2008.

All scholarships will be applied toward tuition first, unless specified otherwise, with the assumption that the student will be registered full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours. Selection will be based on high school and/or college grades, community and school activities, and the required essay.

High school seniors will be notified if they were selected on their Senior Awards Day. Returning students will be notified during the summer or fall with their financial aid award letters. Students not selected will remain on a waiting list throughout the academic year.
