MISSION  STATEMENT

The Southwest Virginia Tech Prep Consortium perceives a dynamic future that will include interactions in a highly competitive, technological society.

Consequently, the Consortium seeks the development of the full potential of a diverse student population, and especially of the “neglected majority.”   Excellence, in its many forms and across a broad spectrum of personal capabilities, must be fostered and nurtured.

We believe that the Southwest Virginia Tech Prep program produces winners.

Furthermore, we believe that we must:

· develop mutual commitments and expectations, and increase motivation among all teachers and students;

· stress the validity of applied academic areas on an equal footing with conventional academic areas;

· teach students through an applied, hands-on approach which is not less demanding, but easier to learn;

· require a challenging program of study for all students and strive to provide for substance and motivation in all courses, especially in mathematics, science, and communication;

· increase cooperation and productive dialog between academic and vocational teachers;

· involve students as active members of the instructional team by encouraging their collaboration with teachers, business and industry leaders, and parents;

· counsel students to select appropriate, relevant, and productive courses and programs with the involvement of counselors, parents, business, and industry; working toward a satisfying and realistic career choice;

· provide extra help and opportunities for students with special needs while maintaining the integrity of all courses and programs;

            · continue to constantly monitor and evaluate student and program progress

Recognizing the challenges and changes that portend the future, we commit ourselves to collaboration among local school divisions, colleges, businesses, professions, labor, and all residents of this Consortium to ensure the full development of the human resource potential in our region.
